Technical Analysis prior to R17, 2015

While fundamental analysis (used by most media tipsters) takes into account the ability of the two competing teams, the home ground advantage, injuries, team changes etc, technical analysis looks for trends and patterns which explain the otherwise inexplicable.

Reviewing last week: the first bit was pretty good; the Dees always looked likely to win by over 3 goals and they hung on to win by 4;  but the second tip of the Swans was awful!!! How wrong could I be!  Of interest was that the Swans were coming hard late in the second term, but then the Hawks got 2 late goals prior to half time and then another immediately after the break.  This seemed to totally flatten the Swans.  But that’s no excuse

This week, the game of interest is Dogs versus Pies. Collingwood has been tumbling down in July and the past 4 games were earmarked as critical ones for them.  They lost to Dockers, Hawks, Port and the Eagles.  Now, at last, they have an easier match and they are favourites.  So we all expect them to win.

But, often teams falter when they get to the one game in which they expect to win – after a run of losses against top placed teams. It is as if the effort takes its toll and they cannot “get up” for the easier game after the tough ones.

So I will go for the Dogs, but not as certs.  There is some uncertainty about them as well.  But maybe their loss to the Cats wasn’t all that bad – because they were playing the Cats the week after Geelong had a first up shocker.

I reckon the Dogs deserve to be favourites and tipping them is the way to go.
