End of year Analysis in purple below

BIG apologies!!

This website is a one person operation. A crisis took me away from the job and much of the last minute pre-season work was not done. The data will be updated when it can be done. The weekly analysis will continue, at least in its basic detail.

G = Gold (suggestion for Supercoach and > $400K)

S = Silver (suggestion for Supercoach and $200K to $400K)

Adelaide Crows (Note: this update will cease after each team has played R1; thereafter, the injury lists are freely available at http://www.afl.com.au/)

* Brown, Luke          Doing well in pre-season & assistant coach Milburn likes him, but not seen in NAB Cup.  Unlikely to be considered early

Crouch, Brad                        Given permission to play NAB Cup 2012, but not on the Crows’ list

* Dangerfield, Patrick G Contract expires end 2012  going more to midfield 2012; GWS rumours. Starred in NAB R2 and did very well NAB R3 & 4.  Reaching his peak

Doughty, Michael     Good pre-season and used sparingly (due to age?) in NAB Cup, playing R1B and a part of NAB R3

* Douglas, Richard G Won Crows B&F in 2010 but had a few minor injuries last year which curtailed him.  Could improve in 2012.  Subbed off at half time NAB R2.  Missed NAB R3 & R4 with hamstring tightness but likely to play R1 regular season

* Grigg, Mitchell        Assistant coach milburn likes him; looks like he will be in defence, but not sighted in NAB Cup

* Henderson, Ricky   Played only a part of NAB R3.  Did well NAB R2 & 4

* Jacobs, Sam            With Moran, Maric and Sellar all gone, he becomes crucial to the Crows chances and is clearly their number 1 ruck option.  Missed early games 2011 with a hammie, but 2012 pre-season has been injury free

* Jaensch, Matthew  Played every NAB Cup game and did okay.  Best game was NAB R4 when he came on at half time

* Johncock, Graham   Subbed off at half time in NAB R4

* Johnston, Lewis      Had injuries late 2011 season but training well at the Crows.  Played a part game NAB R2 but not selected for NAB R3 & 4, so probably not in best 22 at this stage

Joyce, Nicholas          Possible 3rd tall defender, but not seen NAB R1, 2 or 3, so not likely to play early

* Kerridge, Sam Doing well in pre-season and watch in NAB Cup; strongly built.  Played a part game NAB R2, 3 & 4 and in the mix for a game in the regular season.  Maybe just outside best 22

* Knights, Chris        Another injury-interrupted pre-season. Missed the 14 Feb intraclub and NAB R1with hamstring tightness.  Played a part game NAB R2.  Played only a part of NAB R3 and omitted NAB R4

* Lynch, Tom            Coach not overkeen, but did well NAB R2, 3 & 4, so must be in the mix for regular season

* Mackay, David S New coach likes him, comparing him to Joel Corey.  Played NAB R1A, missed Nab R2 and played only a part of NAB R3.  Excelled NAB R4

* McKernan, Shaun S New coach likes him.  Wore green vest Nab R1A and missed NAB R1B.  Did well NAB R2.  This may be a break-out year for him, but played less than a half in NAB R4

Martin, Brodie          Good pre-season and may be ready to peak; but missed intraclub 10 Feb and NAB R1 with hammie.  Named NAB R2 but may not have got on the ground.  Played only portion of NAB R3 and unlikely to be in the team R1 regular season

Otten, Andy              Medial 23 Jan; was considered a chance to play late NAB Cup, but played NAB R1.  Played only a part of NAB R3

* Petrenko, Jared      Played NAB R1, 2 & 3 without getting a lot of it.  Did well in NAB R4 but missed 2 easy shots

* Porplyzia, Jason S Doing well in pre-season and has beefed up, but missed 14 Feb intraclub with a corked calf. May be just one small injury, but the pessismists will be edgy about the news. Also out for NAB Cup R1.  Played a part game NAB R2 and performed well.  Followed up with another good showing in NAB R3 and just okay NAB R4.  Is cheap for DT+SC players

* Reilly, Brent            Impressed in intraclub 10 Feb.  Excelled NAB R3 & 4

Rutten, Ben 31 Jan foot  injury and expected to miss round 1; further surgery early Feb.  In full training late NAB Cup, but too underdone to play the Nab Final and no cert to play R1 regular season

* Shaw, Sam B Unknown injuries early in pre-season, but doing well in 2012.  Played a part game NAB R2.  He may have to make way for Ben Rutten early in the season.

Sloane, Rory G Starred in intraclub 2nd week Feb and doing well in NAB Cup

* Smith, Brodie          Played a part game NAB R2 after playing NAB R1A.  Played a full game NAB R3.  Did okay NAB R4 but may play time in the SANFL

* Symes, Brad            Did well NAB R2 then not seen in NAB R3 & 4

* Talia, Daniel (note: The Dogs have a Michael Talia) Achilles, resumed training Jan; played NAB R1 without excelling.  Played a part game NAB R2 and played NAB R3.  Played NAB R4 with low numbers.  Shaw is more likely to hold his spot in the early season

Tambling, Richard   Wore green vest Nab R1A & R1B.  Played a part game NAB R2.  Unlikely to be in best 22

* Thompson, Luke    Ankle, resumed training jan but training well late Jan.  Played a part game NAB R2 after playing NAB R1A.  Played only a part of NAB R3 and missed NAB R4

* Thompson, Scott G Hit top form NAB R4

* Tippett, Kurt S Doing well in pre-season; had injury worries at beginning and end of 2011, so it is pleasing to see him contribute well in NAB R1.  Missed R2 and did well R3 & R4

van Berlo, Nathan     The Crows’ best in NAB R3

* Vince, Bernie          Played only a part of NAB R3 and then won Michael Tuck medal in NAB R4

* Walker, Taylor S Doing well in pre-season; excelled in intraclub 10 Feb; had a calf injury later in Feb. Numbers in NAB Cup 1, 2 & 3 not high, but then did well NAB R4

Young, Will 09 Jan2012 has recovered from a broken fibula, was also excused from the gruelling runs, but ran laps of the oval.  Not seen in NAB Cup R1, 2 or 3

Rookies

* Callinan, Ian           Did well NAB R2 and a good chance for promotion.  Played only a part of NAB R3 and subbed on at half time NAB R4.  Likely to be in best 22 and has been promoted

Dowdell, Ben             Rookie ruckman and project player at this stage

Jenkins, Josh             Key forward who can pinch hit in the ruck; coach likes

McIntyre, Tim           Played in SANFL in 2011. Some chance to be promoted.  Played a part game NAB R2

Riley, Aidan               Played a part game NAB R2

* Wright, Matthew    Played only a part of NAB R3.  Subbed off at half time in NAB R4

Adelaide 14 wins and 6th.

After round 7 updated analysis: 16 wins and 4th

Initial tip was good.  The Crows are flying at present after most had them missing the finals. Unexpected wins against the Swans and Cats has them at 6 and 1. Their friendly draw (doubling up against Port – as always, Suns and Giants) and small injury list virtually ensures a finals berth. Top 4 is likely, but not certain.

Weeks 8 – 10 prior to the bye are critical. They play the Blues away, Pies at home and Dockers away. They end the year playing Lions, Dees and Suns

At end of season: 17 wins and 2nd.  Very good analysis comparatively. Most experts had the Crows waaaaay outside the top 8.  Break-out years for Dangerfield and Sloane helped.  So did the relatively low injury toll.

Adelaide Crows (Note: this update will cease after each team has played R1; thereafter, the injury lists are freely available at http://www.afl.com.au/)

Tip before season began: 14 wins and 6th.

Brisbane 7 wins and 15th.

After round 7 updated analysis: 7 wins and 14th

Initial tip  was good.  The Lions look like fight Port for 14th / 15th. The critical thing for fans is to beat the new kids on the block – this week vs Giants and also the 2nd Q match in round 17. Missing Leuenberger for so long is disappointing.

At end of season: 10 wins and 13th. Analysis was just fair.  Brisbane found something as the year progressed.  Brown lasted the season; Zorko (once he overcame injuries) was a real find.  Otherwise, the team as a whole improved.

* Maguire, Matthew Killed the macho version of Bambi by colliding with J. Brown at training and then “atoned” by playing well in NAB R2. Played only a part of NAB R3. Apart from one thing, his pre-season has been excellent

* McGrath, Ashley Doing well in the pre-season until a foot injury caused him to miss NAB R4. Likely to be okay for regular season

* Rich, Daniel Big preseason 2012, but missed 15 Feb intraclub with stress reaction in same foot as 2011. Club says he will play NAB R1 on 25 Feb, but then misses R1 & 2 and played okay NAB R3 & 4

* Rockliff, Tom G Starred NAB R3 then missed NAB R4

Sheldon, Sam Played only a part of NAB R2

Staker, Brent Already ruled out for the year with a knee injury

Wearden, Patrick Played only a part of NAB R2

* Yeo, Elliot Played okay in NAB R1. Named for NAB R3 but duck eggs so maybe didn’t play at all. Missed NAB R4

Zorko, Dayne Big wraps on him. But Lions website states that he missed the 15 Feb intraclub with a hip. Was on target for a R1 regular season debut prior to injury. Missed entire Nab Cup, so watch for his return (via NEAFL?)
