Carl+Coll 2012

(data to be added in March 2012)

End of year Analysis in purple below

BIG apologies!!

This website is a one person operation. A crisis took me away from the job and much of the last minute pre-season work was not done. The data will be updated when it can be done. The weekly analysis will continue, at least in its basic detail.

Legend

Blue = Bad news (may go worse than last year; may have injury trouble or do worse than most people think)

Pink = Positive news (may exceed expectations or has overcome previous injuries)

Black = neither bad nor positive at this stage, but worthy of a comment

G = Gold (suggestion for Supercoach and > $400K)

S = Silver (suggestion for Supercoach and $200K to $400K)

B = Bronze (suggestion for Supercoach and < $200K)

Updates to appear sometime after each NAB Cup match (last update 26 March 2012 and updates / additions have a *)

Carlton 14 wins and 5th.

After round 7 updated analysis: 16 wins and 1st

Initial tip was reasonable.  Something amazing happened on Tuesday, 15 May, 2012. The sun came up. Lighten up, Blues fans. You are tipped to finish on top. The injury list isn’t too bad (most on the list are fringe players / rookies) and the team has a good balance about it. The critical weeks for the Blues are rounds 11 – 15. They play the Cats on the back of 2 x 6 days breaks in round 11, then another 6 day break to the Eagles in Perth. After the bye, it is Hawks then Pies. After that, life gets easier, but they cannot afford to be 0 and 4 through these rounds.

At end of season: 11 wins and 10th.  Analysis barely passable.  But the Blues had a shocker with injuries (and, as a result, confidence – then the coach got sacked).  Judd, Murphy, Walker and Yarran all produced much lower total 2012 Supercoach scores compared to 2011.

After round 7 updated analysis: 14 wins and 7th

Initial tip was a tad ambitious, perhaps.

The Pies had already lost Krakouer and Macaffer for the year before round 1. They have now lost Ball for the season and maybe Johnson as well. This is not ideal. It doesn’t totally kill off their flag hopes, but it puts a big dent in them and they cannot afford to lose anyone else from the best 25. The draw doesn’t help them. In the 9 weeks 15 – 23, they play the other 7 2011 finalists. This includes Swans and Eagles away. If they beat the Cats in round 8, they will be “upgraded” to a year end 6th.

At end of season: 16 wins and 4th.  Analysis was okay.  They would have been tipped to go higher, but the year was in trouble early with numerous players out for extended periods.  The big winning run in the middle of the year was commendable – but (alas for Pie fans) not sustainable.  The improvement of Beams in 2012 (he had injury concerns at key times the previous year) was the highlight

Ball, Luke G Good Pre-season. Starred NAB R2

Beams, Dayne Missed training 06 Feb and also NAB R1 with shin soreness. Missed NAB R4 and likely to be underdone for the regular season

* Clarke, Martin Training well, but then missed NAB R1 with a hammie and “back in full training 29 Feb”. Missed NAB R1. Played NAB R2 but only came on in third quarter. Did okay NAB R3 with more game time. May be slightly underdone coming to R1 regular season, but a probable regular

* Cloke, Travis G Subbed off at half time NAB R2. Starred NAB R4

* Dawes, Chris Coach said after NAB R2 he would like Dawes to pinch hit in the ruck (a la Leigh Brown 2011). Hit form NAB R4

Macaffer, Brent Did his ACL in NAB Cup R1 and likely to miss the entire season

Swan, Dane G Subbed off at half time NAB R2. Reasonable only in NAB R3 & 4

Tarrant, Chris On a modified program early in pre-season due to a foot injury. Missed NAB R4 and likely to be underdone for the regular season

Thomas, Dale G Did very well NAB Cup R1 & 2
