Melb+North 2012

(data to be added in March 2012)

End of year Analysis in purple below

BIG apologies!!

This website is a one person operation. A crisis took me away from the job and much of the last minute pre-season work was not done. The data will be updated when it can be done. The weekly analysis will continue, at least in its basic detail.

Legend

Blue = Bad news (may go worse than last year; may have injury trouble or do worse than most people think)

Pink = Positive news (may exceed expectations or has overcome previous injuries)

Black = neither bad nor positive at this stage, but worthy of a comment

Updates to appear sometime after each NAB Cup match  (last update 16 March 2012 and updates / additions have a *)

Melbourne 5 wins and 16th.
After round 7 updated analysis: 4 wins and 16th
Initial tip was very close. And it doesn’t help now to be playing 7 x 2011 finalists in succession rounds 5 – 11. They do get to play the Giants twice and the Suns at home after the bye, but they are likely to be 0 and 11 before then

End of season: 4 wins and 16th.  Analysis was very good.  The Dees were gone prior to round 1, due to their big injury count.  Well, they weren’t going to be finalists anyway, but a healthy list could have finished a few spots higher than 16th.  Their injury list was the worst at the beginning on 2012 and was also the worst for the season overall.

North Melbourne 12 wins and 10th.

After round 7 updated analysis: 12 wins and 11th
Initial tip was very close. For a while, it appeared that the Roos may be certs for the finals. But the unexpected loss vs the Dogs recently took away one of their “certain” wins. They are still a chance to make the eight due to few injuries and more winnable games. The tricky part of the draw is rounds 14 – 16 when they play the Saints, Eagles (in Hobart) and then the Blues with 2 x 6 day breaks

End of season: 14 wins and 8th.  Analysis was good.  The Roos had a dream run with injuries during the year.  Their injury rating of 145 (where lower is better) was the lightest in the league – with the Swans 2nd best at 209.  Poor old Dees scored 494, while Carlton, Collingwood, Suns and Port also scored >400.  Key wins over the Dons and Blues (catching both teams at the right time) propelled them to a deserved finals berth (even if they bombed out early – it beats finishing 9th!)
